Hi.
This is a blog. About transsexuality, feminism, misogyny, transphobia, homophobia, GLBT stuff and etcetera (check my tags for more on that). This is also an angry blog.
You might see me as slightly antagonistic. Oh well. I incite because I am trying to push people into thinking, discussing and breaking out of the stagnant bullshit of privilege. Which needs a nice firm kick quite a bit. Sometimes to the head. If I need a nice firm kick too, make sure to distribute it because well, I'm not immune to privilege either. XD

Re: Two points
Date: 2009-09-07 04:18 pm (UTC)That said, I still hold by what I said. If the desire is not there to remove the offending organ then one is simply not transsexual. I did not say that this person does not suffer. I did not say this person is not driven. I simply said this person is not transsexual.
Look at it this way, the very word transsexual defines this as the deviding line. If you would indulge me for a moment to quote Webster’s as you have done on your blog Dys
Lets srtart with the root words

Put them together as Dr benjamine did and you get this : (I had to refer to an older copy of Amerincan Heritege as Webster's on line still goes here but has to be just a tad politicaly correct with what they put on line these days
Transsexual Main Entry: trans·sex·u·al
Variant(s): also tran·sex·u·al \(ˌ)tran(t)s-ˈsek-sh(ə-)wəl, -shəl\
Function: noun
1. A person with an overwhelming desire to become the other sex. 2. A person whose sex has been changed externally through surgery
The very idea that there can be such a creature as the non-op is beyond the pale. It is an oxymoron.. Again this is NOT to belittle those who come from a different place and are driven by different needs
it is just saying that if you are happy with things are, then you are not a transsexual!.
Why the hang-up on terminology? It's because those with that desire are simply not part of a contiuum. They come from a different place with different needs and different goals and lumping us in with those who come from those different places is a disservice to both.
There is a human desire for neatness and so it is not at all unreasonable that those who have not experienced this have been willing to create a unified field theory of gender issues. Sadly this is not to our best interests as it deflects attention away from these being separate issues. By pushing them together it blends all gender issues together into a huge muddy mess. What is worse it is much easier to sweep under the carpet that way too. Transsexual crossdresser same thing fer-get-about-um!
Whether you realize it or not there is a backlash going on in this country from that blending. And it does threaten us as noting has since we were allowed to get surgical correction. We are being seen by the right as the cutting edge of undermining family values and to the gay left we are canon fodder to be used and disposed of when their needs are fulfilled What this means in the hear and now for a transsexual is records are becoming harder to change, the level of documentation more stringent. the test of passing more difficult if you will...
It is certainly harder for us to transition, as the man in the street becomes educated of the "markers" that wrong sex hormones produce. We get read now in places and situations when years back, we didn't.
We are not the same and it’s time to say this loud and clear. It’s time to push for study of these as different issues by more than Milt Diamond. It’s time for research into the reasons why both conditions exist and how to treat it best.
As for the being a woman over being a man… It certainly would have been easier if there was a way round this but that simply does not exist. I was female, I will always be female and so being female fully it is the happier state of being for me.
